Music City Memo is proud to present the exclusive premiere of Taylor Tumlinson’s acoustic music video for her latest single Bigger Than Texas.

Bigger Than Texas genuinely depicts the questioning and what ifs that result from someone’s departure. The meticulous lyrics prove that physical space and personal freedom are a frustrating solution for essential closure. Taylor’s soulful vocals paired with a stripped-down presentation expertly balances the necessity of moving on and the longing for a return.

Bigger Than Texas is the second single from Taylor’s upcoming debut full-length album. The painstaking song is autobiographical and stems from a recent heartbreak. Hearing the news that her ex was moving home became the impetus for a tearful writing session. Taylor contacted her favorite co-writer Karleigh Schmidt and together Bigger Than Texas was born.

The ballad instantly resonated with listeners and social media. Bigger Than Texas became Taylor’s most successful release to date, doubling her previous record within two days. The song debuted at #52 on the Texas Music Pickers Spotify Chart and has remained in the Top 50 for the past three weeks.

The video’s concept was initiated by Taylor. She felt that a stripped-down percussion and smooth acoustic lead guitar would center on the lyrics and vulnerability, while provoking a deeper emotional element. Kerry West and Drew Hall at Rosewood Studios in Tyler Texas, along with Gabriel Muniz teamed up to bring Taylor’s vision to life.

Taylor’s love for entertaining ignited at an early age. Before the age of 16, she opened for some of her favorite artists including Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen, and Jon Wolfe. She recorded her first record in Nashville in 2010 with her producer, Trey Matthews, and enjoyed her first co-writing session with Trey and Danny Green (who co-wrote Chris Stapleton’s Fire Away). Her music earned radio play and interviews all over South Texas. In addition, she played various venues in the area, including Brewster Street Icehouse.

After graduating from Texas A&M, she decided to make Nashville her home. She focused on writing to prepare to record a full-length album. Taylor’s voice has been described as “mesmerizing”, “fierce”, “soulful”, and “strong with a good, raspy country sound” by various music bloggers. The first single, Hold Your Horses, premiered in March of 2021. The second single, Bigger Than Texas, premiered in July of 2021.
