Mary Heather Hickman, known for her song “Treasure” (released in February 2021), is our latest choice to be featured in our “Artists to Watch” article.
Although born and raised in El Dorado, Arkansas, Mary Heather lived in Frisco, Texas as well as Fayetteville, before moving to Nashville in 2018 to pursue her career in country music. The 26 year old, who has been described as having a “classic country” sound that’s also honest and gritty, started performing as early as 10 years old. Hickman played at Opry houses and festivals all around Texas, and appeared at numerous Dallas Cowboys football games as well as many other special events.
Mary Heather was selected as a contestant for Season 6 of NBC’s hit show “The Voice” shortly after graduating from high school. From there, she went on to attend the University of Arkansas, where she earned a degree in Communications. While still a student at UA, Mary Heather frequently performed around Fayetteville with her band, ‘The Sinners’.
Hickman’s focus on her writing, collaborating, and performing while in Nashville has challenged her growth into a powerful singer-songwriter. In 2019, she was nominated for an Arkansas Country Music Association Award (ACMA). Mary Heather has been a featured artist at several venues including AT&T Stadium, also known as the home of the Dallas Cowboys, and Johnnie High’s Country Music revue, among others. Some of the artists she has opened for include, but are not limited to, Brad Paisley, Tracy Lawrence, Kellie Pickler, and Eli Young band.
“Treasure” has been viewed over 2.8 million times on TikTok, and was featured on the Women of iHeart Country syndicated radio show. You can check out this song and others by Mary Heather on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
